Pocahontas

i.

how the ocean was changed

just by picking up the globe

and shaking it, left

right, in out, one foot

the other, tsunami

sneezes, earthquake coughs.

A little girl

had the power to do this, because

she’d seen a man stagger

up a hill that was pinned

to his hands. Because she

watched, laughing and crying

as they lifted him up on the hill –
